Johnson to Jump at Radford

He's one of the top high school triple-jumpers in the country. And Charlottesville senior David Johnson is taking his talents to Radford in the fall.

Johnson chose the Highlanders last week, and made his college choice public at Wednesday night's winter sports banquet at Charlottesville High School.

"For me, it was more where I was going to be happy, than the school name," said Johnson, who was also recruited by Virginia, Illinois, and Tennessee, among others.

Earlier this year, Johnson's triple jump of 49-10.25 stood as the best in the United States for three weeks. He currently holds the No. 2 triple jump in the country. Johnson is also the reigning AA state triple jump champion in both indoor and outdoor track.

Johnson expects to do both the triple jump and long jump at Radford.

"Just from an academic standpoint, I felt like I was going to get a lot from that university. And it just felt like home to me," he said. "And that's what I was really looking for in a college, and that's why Radford is the perfect pick for me."
