While most of the Jefferson District kicks off a new boys' basketball season Tuesday, the reigning champs will wait until Friday when they travel to Spotsylvania. Their game against Goochland, originally set for Tuesday, is one of four games postponed due to football playoffs.
Since the Bulldogs will be competing in the Division II VSHL state semifinals Friday night, the game has been rescheduled for January 18. Goochland's scheduled visit to Palmyra on December 6 has also been postponed with no rescheduled date yet.
Also affected by football playoffs is Kettle Run's basketball season. The boys' and girls' doubleheader scheduled at the Shoebox on December 3 has been moved to December 21. The girls will play at 1 p.m., the boys at approximately 5 p.m.
After bowing out in the state semifinals a year ago, the Fluvanna boys' basketball team anxiously awaits their return to the court but welcomes an extra few days of practice.
"I think it's good for us because we have so many inexperienced players," said head coach Munro Rateau. "We're gonna take it as an experience we can benefit from and get a little more practice in."
The Flucos return four reserve players and two starters, including forward Taylor Lintecum and Division 3 Virginia state co-player of the year, YaYa Anderson. The recent Radford commit helped guide the 2010-2011 team to a 24-3 record highlighted by Jefferson District and Region II Division 3 championships.
Coach Rateau is currently sixth among active coaches in the VHSL with 454 career wins.
