It's a new season and the William Monroe Greene Dragons are ready for a new challenge. This season, they make the switch from the Jefferson District to the Bull Run District.
"We're really excited," said tight end Zach Duprey. "It's good to mix up the competition, see some different schools and hopefully have a good, competitive season."
The Greene Dragons will play in a new district this year, and they'll also play their home games in their newly-renovated stadium. It's an exciting addition for both the team and the community.
"We're all pumped up about it because our facility was lacking in several areas," said head coach Mark Sanford. "We're going to have one of the finest facilities in Central Virginia."
Monroe will also have a change at quarterback this season. Three players are currently competing for the starting job.
"It's a wide open battle," said running back Doug Sizemore. "They're very hungry, very competitive, and all three very good quarterbacks. Whichever one shows himself to be number one I'm sure will be the best choice for our team."
The Greene Dragons open up the 2011 season at Nelson on August 26th.
