Five area teams entered the night unbeaten on the young season and only three remained when the dust settled after another Friday night of gridiron action.

Albemarle and Charlottesville clashed in our Game of the Week, with the Patriots emerging victorious, 37-0. It marked the Pats second straight win, as they now sit at 2-1 on the year. Charlottesville fell to 0-3. Albemarle quarterback Lee Carneal completed 8-of-13 passes for 188 yards and two touchdowns to lead the way and Daniel Ricotta added two rushing touchdowns for the Patriots in the win.

Monticello suffered its first defeat of the year on Friday, falling at Powhatan 44-20. The Indians jumped out to a 37-0 lead before Monticello found the scoreboard. Jesse Ayres scored three touchdowns for the Mustangs in the losing effort. Monticello falls to 2-1 on the season and will open up district play hosting Orange next week.

Louisa remained perfect on the year with a 35-21 win over Courtland. Elijah Payne paced the defense with three interceptions and Anthony Hunter scored three touchdowns in the victory. The Lions will take on William Monroe to open up district play next Friday.

The Dragons suffered their first loss of the year on Friday, falling at Eastern View, 61-13. Mark Sanford's club seemed outmatched from the opening kickoff and will look to bounce back at Louisa next week.

Orange traveled to James Monroe and returned on the losing end of a 50-3 contest. The Hornets will head to Monticello next Friday to begin their Jefferson District schedule.

Fluvanna making the trip to Buckingham and falling to the undefeated Knights, 19-7. The Flucos took a 7-6 lead into the half, but Buckingham exploded to shut down Fluvanna in the second. The Knights are now 4-0 on the season, with Fluvanna falling to 1-2.

Madison had no trouble with Nelson on the road, winning 56-27. The Mountaineers bouncing back from a loss to William Monroe last week and move to 2-1, while Nelson is 0-3.

In private school action, Blue Ridge fell at Liberty Christian, while Fork Union topped Hargrave Military Academy, 42-0.
