After a winless 2012, there is nowhere to go but up for the St. Anne's-Belfield Saints, who enter 2013 with a new attitude and are eager to put last year in the rearview mirror.

"I think we're really looking forward to it to be quite honest with you," STAB coach John Blake said. "From the last day last year, last November, it's been on my mind quite a bit. So I'm sure for all the returners it's been on their mind."

"Well last year, to be honest, was really disappointing," senior Rashad Khairkhawa added. "Not only for the fans, the coaches, the players, for everyone. It's part of the STAB community -- we don't like losing. So we're out here to prove ourselves differently this year."

There was one bright spot in an otherwise dim season for STAB. Plenty of younger players got valuable playing time, a fact Blake believes will help the team this season.

"We played a lot of kids last year, whether due to injuries or just lack of size of team, we just played a lot of kids. Despite the fact we didn't get any wins, we got a lot of experience."

One of those players is junior Lee Parkhill, who took over at quarterback midway through the season.

"The one kid I think you need to look out for is Lee Parkhill," Blake said. "He's done great, his arm strength is really built up and he's done a great job with it."

"I have very high expectations," Parkhill said. "We have a lot of good guys coming in. I think we'll perform well. I think we're ready to go."

A new season means a fresh start for a Saints team ready to get back on top.

"It's a new start for us. We're 0-0 so maybe we can come out and make some things happen," Blake said.
