The last time the Saint Anne's Belfield football team hit the field was the 2008 state championship game, where soggy playing conditions and a talented Atlantic Shores team both worked against them in a 33-13 loss. Now the Saints are looking to get back and finish the job this season.
John Blake's squad took the field to open training camp on Monday and has begun piecing together the depth chart. The team will have a different look from last year. Gone are the familiar faces of Howie Long Jr, Alex Asher, and Quincy September, but many players are set to step up. Owen Van Arsdale takes over under center, while Aaron Clark and Will McGee provide a solid one-two punch in the backfield.
The Saints have made it to the state title game in each of the last three seasons, taking home the championship twice, and look to get back to the championship game for the fourth year in a row. They've made the state playoffs in each of the last 13 seasons.
STAB opens up its schedule on August 20 at home against North Cross. Click on the above video link to view the complete preview of the 2009 Saint Anne's Belfield Saints.
