William Monroe football has fallen upon tough times as of late. The Dragons only managed one win last season, but things are looking up for the Greene Dragon football program, especially with the addition of a new head coach, who brings with him a new attitude for the entire program.
Mark Sanford spent the last seven years as the head coach at Covenant, where he built a program that went from not being able to build a full team to the state playoffs. Now, he looks to bring the same kind of turnaround to William Monroe. The Dragons have suffered several losing season in a row, but Sanford feels this can change.
The new head coach says that two things have to happen for the Dragons to have success. He has to install successful schemes and football knowledge, but more importantly, he must change the culture of Dragons football. Sanford believes that it starts with convincing the players that they can win, and become a winning program.
William Monroe also brings a good group of motivated, experience, and talented athletes into the 2009 season. Mitchell Morris saw some time at quarterback last year, and looks to be the consistent starter this season.
The Dragons open up their schedule on September 4 at Spotswood. Click on the above video link to view a preview of the 2009 William Monroe Greene Dragons.
