While the kickoff of the high school football season is a week away for some teams, two weeks away for most, several area teams hit the field for scrimmage action on Friday night.
Monticello got the chance to play a game on its new turf field for the first time. The Mustangs battled Rustburg in exhibition action and played a full four quarters. After falling behind 14-0, C.J. Page rushed in from two yards out to get Monticello on the board to make it 14-7 at halftime. The Mustang defense did not have an answer for Rustburg in the second half, and fell 23-7.
Meanwhile, Albemarle traveled to Turner Ashby to play a pair of games Friday night. The Patriots fell to Turner Ashby, 14-6, and then lost to Parkview, 22-0. Orange also took part in the scrimmages, falling to Turner Ashby 14-0, and losing to Parkview as well, 21-7.
Each of the three schools that played tonight do not kickoff their regular seasons until September 4.
