Friday Night EndZone kicked off for the 2009 season with four local teams taking the field. All four area teams were able to come away with victories.
Covenant took the field Friday afternoon to open its respective season, and performed well in a 40-28 win over Norfolk Christian. Lee Coppock completed six of 16 pass attempts for 101 yards, a touchdown, and an interception, while Chris Shifflett rushed for 89 yards on 13 carries and a TD. Sam Dale had a kickoff return for a touchdown in the victory.
Western Albemarle welcomed Waynesboro for our Game of the Week, with the Warriors coming out of the gates strong. Western led 35-0 after a quarter and 42-0 at the half, cruising to the 49-0 win.
Fluvanna traveled to Prince Edward to open its season, and Rodney Redd was able to pick up a win in his head coaching debut, as the Flucos topped the Eagles, 28-6.
Buckingham opened the season with a win against Appomattox. The Knights took the game, 20-13.
The Jefferson District's newest member was able to get a win to open the season, as Goochland topped Benedictine, 25-12.
