Albemarle and Charlottesville will meet on Friday night in a match up of two teams in search of their first win of the season. The two will meet on the Black Knights' home turf in our Friday Night EndZone Game of the Week.
Albemarle enters with an 0-2 record. The Patriots are coming off a loss to Western Albemarle, and fell at Monticello two weeks ago to open the season. They'll be looking to get a win against their cross-town rivals before they enter Commonwealth District play next week at North Stafford.
Charlottesville takes the field at home for the first time this season, and after two lengthy road trips. The Black Knights fell at R.E. Lee in Staunton to open things up two weeks ago, and followed that up with a loss at James Monroe in Fredericksburg last Friday. The Yellow Jackets are the defending state champions. The Knights fell to Albemarle in this match up a year ago. They'll head to Goochland to open up their Jefferson District schedule next Friday night.
These two teams are in very similar situations. While both are looking for their first wins, other similarities pop up as well. Chris Fraser is in his second year as the Knights' head coach, while Albemarle features Wendell Green on the sideline, who is in his first year. The two newer head coaches is not where it stops, as both teams have many players back from last year at their skill positions. Both teams are also working with new starting quarterbacks.
Kickoff for this match up is set for 7:30 at Charlottesville High School on Friday night. Click on the above video link to hear the Knights' thoughts on meeting their cross-town rivals.
