Last month, Rodney Redd resigned as the head football coach at Fluvanna County High School. Now, Redd is returning to a familiar sideline. He's back on Brud Bicknell's staff at Monticello as an assistant, as he was for the six years prior to his one year stay at Fluvanna.
Redd says he'll coach an area of the defense, and may help out with the offense a little bit as well if needed. He resigned last month after just one season at the head of the Fluco program, leading the team to a 3-7 mark, 2-5 in Jefferson District play, after the club finished 0-10 in 2008. Jason Barnett has since taken over head coaching duties at Fluvanna on an interim basis.
Monticello has hopes of competing for a Jefferson District title this season. The Mustangs finished 2009 with a 4-6 record, 3-4 in district play. They won the only match up of the year with Redd's Flucos, 14-9, and stopped Fluvanna from scoring in the red zone as time expired to clinch a dramatic win.
