Culpeper Forced to Forfeit CHS Win

Four days after falling to 0-2 with a shutout loss at Culpeper, the Charlottesville football team's record improved to 1-1.

CHS athletic director Larry Mangino confirmed on Tuesday that Culpeper was forced to forfeit last Friday's 31-0 win over the Black Knights.

"I got a call from their athletic director a few hours ago," Mangino said, "and he told me the bad news."

Culpeper athletic director Michael Wills told the Fredericksburg Free Lance-Star on Tuesday that the forfeit was due to the Blue Devils' use of an ineligible player in last Friday's game.

"I feel bad for those guys," Mangino said. "And I certainly appreciate the integrity of the school."

According to CHS coach Eric Sherry, the game now goes in the record book as a 2-0 forfeit, and statistics from the game no longer count.

CHS retroactively avoids its seventh consecutive 0-2 start with the forfeit. The Black Knights are off this Friday, and travel to William Monroe next week.
