Former Fork Union quarterback Christian Hackenberg just got to Happy Valley -- and he's already in contention for the starting job at Penn State.
The Penn State football program released an updated post-spring depth chart on Thursday that included Hackenberg -- who just graduated from Fork Union -- as the co-No. 1 at quarterback, along with junior college transfer Tyler Ferguson.
Last year's starter, Matt McGloin, graduated.
Ferguson arrived at Penn State in January and worked with his new teammates during spring practices. Hackenberg only recently arrived in State College to work out with the Nittany Lions this summer, but without the presence of coaches.
Hackenberg is coming off an all-state senior season with the Blue Devils, in which he threw for 2,144 yards and 22 touchdowns, and led Fork Union to the VISAA Division 1 state title game.
Hackenberg initially committed to Penn State in February 2012, and he signed with the program this past February. He was regarded as a five-star recruit by 247Sports.com, and ranked the top quarterback in the country in his class by ESPN.com.
