JMU Lands Two Local Players on Signing Day

Posted: Wed 7:44 PM, Feb 06, 2013

On Wednesday morning, Charlottesville senior Rashard Davis took a moment to reflect on the hard work that led to his future career in college football.

"Throughout the summer, even throughout the school year. Last year, we started in spring camp. We were even in winter practices, out there in like 20 degree weather practicing," he recalled. "And it all paid off in the end."

Davis signed his National Letter of Intent to play at James Madison during a brief ceremony Wednesday morning. Joining him in the Dukes' recruiting class was St. Anne's-Belfield senior Aaron Stinnie.

"I really love the atmosphere they have there. I've been to a game or two there, and they really go all-out, and I love it," Stinnie explained. "And the campus is really nice. I fell in love with the coaches and the team and everything, and I just love their program."

Stinnie just started playing organized football two years ago. But the 6-5, 260-lb. lineman was an all-state selection on both sides of the ball last fall, and was also being recruiting by Richmond and William & Mary.

"Right now I just know I've got to work on my moves, and just get a lot stronger, so I can go in and try to be ahead of the game once I step in," Stinnie said. "Because I know I'm behind the curve right now, only playing for two years. But I'm just going to work as hard as I can."

The 5-9, 180-lb. Davis will play receiver at JMU, after throwing for 1,074 yards and running for 1,383 yards as the Black Knights' quarterback this past season.

Now he's looking forward to joining a JMU program that enters each season with CAA and national title aspirations.

"It's going in, competing, seeing if you can beat the best. And if you win a position, that means you're the best of the best," Davis said. "So you just feel good about yourself at the end of the day.

"I think wide receiver is a spot where I really fit in there," Davis added. "And return man, I can be really deadly."
