John Kayajanian has stepped down as longtime head coach of the Orange Co. football team, according to a report by the Fredericksburg Free Lance-Star.
The Hornets have struggled in the last two seasons, winning just one game each in 2011 and 2012 after the team's move to the AAA level and the loaded Commonwealth District. Orange Co. will return to the Jefferson District in 2013.
Kayajanian amassed a 101-84 record as head coach. He's been at Orange Co. 34 years, previously as an assistant coach. He will stay on as the head coach of the wrestling team.
Orange Co. Athletic Director Marc Cole made the announcement, saying Kayajanian had been "let go" and the Hornets were "going in a different direction."
