Local Players Shine at Central Virginia Elite Combine

For the second straight year dozens of local high school football players descended on the turf at Monticello High School for the Central Virginia Elite Combine put on by Scrimmage Play and the AthElite Factory.

Monticello's TJ Tillery, Kyree Koonce of Buckingham County and Western Albemarle's Kent Henry and Nic Drapanas were just some of the participants taking part in speed drills like the 40-yard dash and shuttle cones.

"When you're getting recruited, these type things are what gives you stars," AthElite Factory's Joe Sanford explained. "These numbers, the 40, the shuttle, are going to create how highly recruited you are."

"This definitely helps a lot because Joe takes the time to help us and show what we're doing so that when we go to the bigger showcases we can show what we do," Tillery added.

Two players who can attest to that are Charlottesville's Rashard Davis and Dashon Tibss. Each impressed at last year's CVEC and it paid off, with Davis signing to play at James Madison and Tibbs going to Richmond.

Players like Tillery are hoping to follow in those footsteps.

"It definitely helps someone like me because to see (Davis and Tibbs) get the offers they did, it's cool because we're all on the same level."
