Louisa's Jackson Bound for VSU

Louisa County's Zack Jackson has decided on his college football destination.

Jackson will play for Virginia State University next year, Louisa coach Jon Meeks said Thursday night. The Lions will hold a signing ceremony for Jackson at the school next Thursday.

Jackson is part of the first VSU recruiting class for new head coach Latrell Scott, the former University of Virginia head coach and head coach at the University of Richmond.

Jackson was an all-Jefferson District selection on both sides of the football as a senior in 2012. Meeks said he expects Jackson to play safety at VSU -- meaning his position coach will be former Monticello High School head coach Rodney Redd, who left earlier this off-season to become Scott's defensive backs coach.

On the field this season, Jackson's Lions faced a few setbacks. He accounted for 28 total touchdowns and 2,410 yards, and was a first team all district honoree on both offense and defense. But the Lions were just 3-6 heading into their final game of the season against an undefeated Western Albemarle team. Determined to finish strong, Jackson threw for 2 touchdowns and ran for 3, including the game winning score that sealed the upset in the final seconds.
