Monticello Gets Back on Track with Win Over Turner Ashby

(Report Provided by Scrimmage Play)

After two frustrating weeks, Monticello was due. Things finally got off on the right foot for the Mustangs this week when Denzel Terry ripped off a 73-yard return on the opening kickoff. From there Monticello rolled to a 52-21 victory over Turner Ashby on the road.

The Monticello offense got back to the balance that first appeared possible during summer practices, using a 321-yard outing on the ground to help jumpstart the passing game. Jhalil Mosley put together a 139-yard, three-touchdown night that included an efficient 10-for-12 performance in completion percentage.

T.J. Tillery did much of the heavy lifting in the run game with 129 yards and three touchdowns on 21 touches. But he wasn’t alone as Tyler Wagner ran for 86 yards, Mosley had 55 on the ground and Edress Mirzai notched 45 yards on just four carries.

Alex McNair continued his emergence as a threat in the passing game with four catches for 54 yards and two touchdowns. Seth Miles also had a receiving touchdown while Josh Malm made a 30-yard field goal.

Monticello (5-2) jumps back into Jefferson District play next week on the road against Fluvanna County (2-6).
