Falcon Club Rewards Local High School Seniors

A pair of local high school seniors were honored by the Falcon Club on Wednesday for their work on and off the field.

Covenant senior Clark Crutchfield was presented with the annual Hugh Bingler Memorial Baseball Scholarship. The award is given to an outstanding baseball player who also demonstrates good citizenship and is involved in his community.

Crutchfield, who will play baseball at Roanoke College next year, said Wednesday that he embraced his role as a leader on the Eagles' baseball team.

"We found some great chemistry on the team and it was easy to lead," Crutchfield said. "I felt very fortunate to have the experience to lead a team, and enjoyed every bit of that."

The Skip Kinnier Memorial Scholarship is also based on community involvement, as well as academic and athletic performance. This year's winner was Louisa County diver Kelsey Anne Parshall.

Parshall, who will join the diving team at Radford in the fall, spent much of her high school career as the Lions' only diver.

"It was weird at first, because at the meets I would be the only one to go up there from our team and compete against everybody else," Parshall admitted. "But I got used to it after a while. It wasn't too bad."

Both winners received $2,000 scholarships.
