Louisa head football coach Mark Fischer will leave the school to accept an out-of-state job, CBS19 learned on Monday night. Fischer leaves one of the area's most successful programs.

"He has resigned to take a job out-of-state," Louisa athletics director Lee Downey said in a text message Monday night.

Fischer will head to St. James High School in the Myrtle Beach area of South Carolina to take over the football program. St. James finished 2-9 in 2010 and the head coach resigned following the season.

The Lions are coming off a season that saw them run the table in a perfect 10-0 regular season and finish 11-1 overall, losing in the Region II semifinals to Broad Run. Fischer has led the Lions to quite a few successful seasons, including a state runner-up showing in 2006.

Louisa is 58-21 since 2004 under Fischer. Downey indicated that there would be more details available on Wednesday regarding Fischer's resignation.

Fischer is the third Jefferson District coach to step down this off-season. Monticello's Brud Bicknell left the Mustangs to go to Patriot High School in northern Virginia. Chris Fraser also left Charlottesville to pursue other coaching opportunities.
