Powhatan won the team title at the Jefferson District Wrestling Championship held Saturday at Fluvanna County High School. The Indians had four gold medalists while Fluvanna and Monticello had three each.
The Monticello girls held on to beat Western Albemarle, 46-38, in a battle for second in the Jefferson District. The Charlottesville boys and Madison girls were also winners on the night.
The Western Albemarle boys and girls swim teams both won Jefferson District titles Saturday at the district championships. Western's Seana Acker was named girls Swimmer of the Year while Charlottesville's Nathaniel Bullard won boys Swimmer of the Year.
William Monroe stayed in the thick of the Bull Run race with a 74-49 win over backyard rival Madison County and Western Albemarle throttled Louisa, 82-48, in Jefferson District play to keep pace with district-leading Fluvanna County.
Monticello, Louisa and Buckingham each lost its playoff matchup Friday night. Monticello fell to Liberty, 42-14; Louisa was done in by Powhatan, 35-0, and Buckingham was handled by King William, 32-14.

The Western Albemarle volleyball team dominated Louisa Thursday night. The fifth-ranked team in the state in Class AA, the Warriors bested the Lions in three straight.
