William Monroe stayed near the top of the Bull Run District with a big 74-59 win over backyard rival Madison County. The Mountaineers were looking to avenge an earlier loss to the Green Dragons in a game that saw Madison lead by double-digits, only to have Monroe force overtime and win in the extra frame.
Monroe led by as many as 15 in the first half and took a nin-point lead into halftime. Madison cut the lead to five early in the third but the Green Dragons pulled away and led by 20 after three. Lamar Nelson paced Monroe with 16 and Patrick Roebuck had 23 for Madison.
Western Albemarle also held steady in the Jefferson District with an 82-48 win over Louisa County to stay on the heels of district-leading Fluvanna County.
