The Orange County Hornets opened their season on the road at Chancellor Friday night.
The Hornets got off to a flying start in this one. In the first quarter, Micah Cunningham's pass was tipped and intercepted by Johnathan Moon for the Hornets; fittingly on a night when a full moon was out for all to see, Moon picks this one and takes it deep into Chargers territory.
On the next play, Tyrone Ellis took the toss sweep across the goal line for a 7-0 Orange lead.
After the early Hornet touchdown, it was all Chancellor. Cunningham responded after throwing the interception with a short touchdown plunge, tying the game at 7.
On the next Chancellor drive, Cunningham would find Thomas Ruane all alone behind the Orange defense. With green pastures ahead on him, Ruane would not be caught. The 50+ yard touchdown pass and scamper put the Chargers up 14-7.
Later in the first half, Orange quarterback Cameron Hughes was blindsided by Logan Luketic and coughed up the football. Joel Elliot was "Johnny on the spot" for Chancellor and returned the fumble to the house for a 28-7 Chancellor lead at the half.
Chancellor beat Orange convincingly, 45-14. The Hornets will head back to the drawing board next week when they visit Culpeper.
