Longtime Blue Ridge School Athletic Director Carl Frye announced Friday that he will retire after 20 years running the Baron athletic department. Frye has been at the school since 1969, first serving as a teacher and coach before being named athletic director in 1992. He started five athletic programs including baseball, wrestling, table tennis, indoor soccer, and volleyball, and has coached six different sports.

"It's a hard decision because it's been an honor and privilege to teach, coach, be a dorm supervisor, friend and work in a unique community like Blue Ridge School."

Head boys' basketball coach and BRS grad Bill Ramsey will take over the athletic director role starting on May 1. Ramsey surpassed 300 wins this winter in his 17th season at the helm.

"I taught Bill, I coached Bill,"said Frye. "He's a person of high standards and integrity. He will take this athletic program to another level. He's an outstanding person and he's the perfect person for the position."

In Frye's tenure at BRS, teams have won four VISAA state titles, eleven CAC championships, six Virginia Prep League championships, three VIC titles and ODFC championships each. Still, what he hopes people remember about him is his dedication to the school.

"I think my legacy to Blue Ridge School is that I gave my heart and soul to the school," said Frye. "And I did everything possible for the boys interests. I figured I've touched over 3000 lives in my tenure here, which makes me feel good about helping people."
