The Covenant Eagles took their show on the road to Liberty Christian last week and saw a crushing 57-17 loss drop them to 2-2 on the season. Friday afternoon they returned home to take on the Blue Ridge Barons, who were fresh off a 28-0 shut out victory over Flint Hill.
Blue Ridge got things going early. After a David Coe run got the Barons into Covenant territory, Speed McCauley took it in on the quarterback sneak for a Barons touchdown and an early 6-0 lead.
After a David Coe interception of Covenant QB Lee Coppock put the Barons in good position, Speedy McCauley sprinted in for his second touchdown on the night, 12-0 Blue Ridge.
Covenant would get on the board just before the end of the first half. Lee Coppock rolled out to the right and found Chris Shifflett for a touchdown, 12-6 Blue Ridge at the half.
Blue Ridge would take control in the second half. McCauley connected with receiver A.J. Williams for another Barons touchdown, McCauley's third on the night.
Blue Ridge would go on to win the game 33-6, despite 279 passing yards from Covenant QB Lee Coppock. The Barons (3-1) travel to St. Stephen's-St. Agnes next week, while Covenant (2-3) travels to Hargrave Military Academy.
