Covenant has found a new head coach for its boys' tennis team, which has won five straight state titles.

Covenant alum Luke Heinsohn has been recognized for his record-breaking senior season at Washington & Lee.

Gus Rose has made no bigger play in his career than when he picked off STAB quarterback Jake Allen in overtime Friday evening. Covenant’s student section rushed the field as the Eagles capped a 21-13 victory over the Saints, the first in school history over their cross-town rivals.

A win Friday would not only give Covenant its first-ever victory versus STAB, it would also keep the Eagles in the playoff hunt.

Thursdays have not been kind to the Covenant Eagles. After reeling off wins in three consecutive Friday night tilts, the Eagles (3-3) have lost consecutive Thursday night games, falling 32-6 to Norfolk Academy at home yesterday evening.

Covenant tied the game with under two minutes to play, only to see Blue Ridge score the go-ahead touchdown on the next drive to stay unbeaten.

Five different Eagles scored as Covenant (1-1) rolled to a 35-6 victory over visiting Fishburne Military High School (0-1).

There will be plenty of family ties in play Saturday when Virginia hosts Richmond in their season opener. There will also be a number of Rocco family members in the stands, including Dave Rocco, the Covenant head football coach who is Danny's brother and Michael's uncle.

The Covenant Eagles head into the new season with much more experience on their roster than last year's team. The 2012 Eagles have twelve seniors, which is three times the amount they had last season.

Blue Ridge and Miller played another epic game Wednesday night in the VISAA Division I quarterfinals. The Barons and Mavericks took things to double-overtime before a winner was decided. Elsewhere, four local provate school girls team were also in state quarterfinal action.

The top-seeded Fluvanna boys basketball team won a thriller over fifth-seeded Charlottesville in the Region II semifinals. Defending VIC Champion Blue Ridge also advanced to the VIC title game with a big win over Liberty Christian Academy in the semifinals.

The William Monroe boys fell to George Mason, 67-54, in the Bull Run District Championship. The two teams split their regular season matchups with Mason winning a one-game playoff to claim the regular season title.

The Covenant basketball team relies on Taylor Peed as both a captain and the lone senior on the squad.

The Monticello girls beat Fluvanna, 41-28, one night after knocking off previously unbeaten Powhatan. The Mustangs have won three of their last four in the Jefferson District. The Miller boys also picked up a big win at home, knocking off defending state champions Virginia Episcopal, 75-33.

The Miller boys beat defending Group AA Division 3 champs Brunswick and the Covenant boys drilled 14 3-pointers in an overtime loss to Hampton Roads Academy.
