About Waynesboro CC
In 1948, a group of 17 people approached the Augusta Realty Corporation to negotiate the purchase of 162 acres which was part of the Quillen Farm. This group then approached Mr. Fred Findley, golf course designer in 1949 and contracted him to design the first nine holes. At that time Mr. Pete Lang was a course designer apprentice studying under Mr. Findley, and he assisted with the design. Other courses designed by Mr. Findley are Farmington Country Club, Winchester Country Club, Ingleside Resort, and Keswick Country Club. He redesigned Country of Virginia in Richmond, Virginia and Bide-A-Wee in Portsmouth, Virginia along with many other course in the area..
At one time Waynesboro Country Club was called Augusta Country Club and so was Ingleside Resort in Staunton Virginia. The Waynesboro Country Club, incorporated came into existence on April 22, 1955 and with the purchase of the Hewitt Dairy Farm. The back nine was completed with the design help of Mr. Lang, Buddy Loving, and Mr. Pi Griggs of the Golf Committee.
The Clubhouse as it stands today was once the Barn for the Quillen Farm and the Maintenance shed was located to the right of hole 1 across the road by the river. In 1962 upon the completion of the back 9, the maintenance shed was moved to the Hewitt Dairy Farm and the Dairy Barn became the maintenance shed.
In 1961 the 'Sunset Room' was opened upstairs to accommodate adults who wanted a drink after their round of golf. The stipulation was you had to be over 21 to enter the Sunset Room. Mr. Sam Snead and his brother, Homer played here. Homer Snead was a regular here.
About The Course
Our 18-hole golf course offers a challenge for players of all abilities. At 6,456 yards, distance is not the key to success on our golf course. However, accuracy is a must as water hazards and out-of-bounds effect play on 16 of the 18 holes. Par is 72 for the men and 73 for the women.
Always in good condition, the golf course offers several panoramic views of the mountains and the surrounding area.
Bill Wintz, our Grounds Superintendent, and his grounds crew maintain and groom the golf course and club property. Always in good condition, the golf course offers several panoramic views of the mountains and the surrounding area.
Golf programs for men, women, junior and senior golfers are offered and supervised by our Golf Professional and his staff. An extensive tournament program, as well as golf instruction, is also available throughout the season.
We have a fleet of 50 gasoline powered golf carts that are available on a rental basis. Our annual cart fee is only $636 tax included, for the year for the whole family. Because Waynesboro Country Club is a private club, daily golfing fees for non-members are not acceptable. Non-members who live in Waynesboro and the surrounding counties and cities are permitted to play once a year. These non-member fees are posted in the Pro Shop.
New golfing members must attend an orientation session with a golf professional prior to their first round of golf. Arrangements can be made for this session by calling the Pro Shop at 942-9340 and speaking directly with the professional.
