Stanardsville native Mikey Moyers will tee off in the 8th annual Spring Creek Classic on Wednesday at Spring Creek Golf Club in Gordonsville. It's the first eGolf event for the William Monroe and Virginia Tech graduate, but Moyers has already played on the PGA Tour.

Earlier in July, Moyers unexpectedly qualified for the The Greenbrier Classic, the first professional event of his career.

"I did not expect it at all," he said. "It was my first pro tournament so the Monday qualifier, I had no expectations. I did not expect to make it, just thought I was going to gain some experience there and see what that was like."

At the Greenbrier, Moyers finished 14-over through two rounds and missed the cut.

"It was nerve-wracking," he said. "It was hard to even get the ball on the tee."

This week, back in his home state, Moyers will be on a slightly smaller stage at the Spring Creek Classic. He'll also be more comfortable in this event because it's a course the Stanardsville native plays about once a month.

"I've had some success here, I'm pretty comfortable here," he said. "And I get to stay at home. I don't have to sleep in a hotel, that always helps."

Even with a PGA event under his belt, Moyers says his approach to this week's tournament won't be much different than before.

"The goals don't change. You still want to win, you still want to play well, approach it the same way."

But he admits his experience level is much different after his time at the Greenbrier.

"I got thrown into the lines then, it was pretty stressful. But it was good because now it makes everything else seem a little smaller, and I know how to handle the pressure a little better."
