More than 3,000 women will don their running shoes Saturday for the annual Charlottesville Women's Four Miler, an energizing and emotional event that raises money for breast cancer research.

Among the thousands of women running Saturday will be a group of teachers from Greenbrier Elementary School in Charlottesville. They'll be running in memory of their late colleague and friend, Carol Hine.

Hine was the music teacher at Greenbrier for 14 years. For ten of those years she lived with breast cancer, coming to work every day with a positive outlook on life. After Carol Hine died this winter, her fellow teachers wanted to honor her legacy in some way. So, they decided to register for the Women's Four Miler in her memory.

"I just have to think that her attitude and her outlook were just so positive and so amazing. I think that's what carried her as long as it did. She absolutely refused to let it get her down," said librarian Sara Murray.

The Greenbrier team, called "Caroling For A Cure", will honor Carol Hine and the many others who are fighting or who have lost their lives to breast cancer.

"[Most of us are] not runners by nature. Some of us are, but we figured we can do that for Carol given all that she's done for us and the school," said 2nd grade teacher, Mary Plank.

The Caroling For A Cure team will be hard to miss at Saturday's race. The Greenbrier Elementary teachers will be running in yellow and green t-shirts, and they'll also have a sign with Carol Hine's name on it during the motivational mile, the last mile of the race.
