The Cavalier men's basketball team earned it's second win of the season Thursday night defeating Howard 92-53. The Cavaliers were out to a slow start and trailed Howard by five points at one point in the first half. They picked up the pace in the second half outscoring the Bison by 27 points. Sean Singletary scored a team high 23 point in the win. Twelve Cavaliers put points on the board including 35 points off the bench.
After the game, Dave Leitao said, "It becomes much more a battle of play against yourself sometimes." He added, "You put tonight game in the back as a learning experience."
Sean Singletary also commented on Thursday's win by saying, “To be a great team, you always have to play at a great level. We didn’t do that tonight. We played at a high level only some of the time. But when you’re playing a good team on the road all the way across the country, you have to play at a high level all of the time."
The Cavaliers out rebounded the Bison 48-23. Howard committed 19 turnovers in the game. The Cavaliers shot 49 percent and hit 12 3-pointers, four by Diane. They also established new team records of 37 field goals, 24 assists and 10 steals at John Paul Jones Arena. Virginia has won 18 of 19 games in the building.
The Cavaliers are now 2-0 this season. Their schedule will get much harder in the next coming games. They travel to Arizona on Saturday for a 10:30 p.m. tip-off. The wildcats will be looking for revenge after falling to the Cavaliers last year on the opening day of John Paul Jones Arena.
