Barry Bonds has been indicted on charges of perjury and obstruction of justice. The indictment was handed down at approximately 5:15 this evening.

The indictment claims that Bonds lied to a federal grand jury when he said that he never knowingly used steroids. It also claims that he also lied in stating that his trainer, Greg Anderson, never injected him with steroids during his 2001 single season home run record setting season. Bonds hit 73 home runs that year.

Anderson was ordered to be released from prison earlier today. He had been imprisoned for obstruction of justice for refusing to testify against Bonds in front of a federal grand jury.

Three months ago, Bonds became baseball's all time home run leader, passing Hank Aaron, considered by many to be the most coveted record in all of sports. During that chase, a grand jury was finalizing the rumored indictment against Bonds.
