The St. Anne's-Belfield football team struggled early on this season. Just five weeks in, the Saints were starring at 1-4 record. It was a very different feel compared to last season when the Saints went undefeated. But this 2007 squad fought their way back, and on Saturday they took home their second straight state trophy.
The Saints lead through the entire game. They scored three touchdowns in the first half, including two from senior running back Joe Chambers. The Saints lead 23-8 heading into the lockerroom. The Saints added 19 points in the second half, including a trick play "hook and lateral" to put the Saints up 42 to 22.
This is the Saints' sixth state title in the past decade.
