Tuscon, Arizona:

The Virginia Cavaliers upset No. 17 Arizona Saturday, 75-72.

Sean Singletary led the 'Hoos with 24 points, while true-freshman Jeff Jones added 15 points on five three-pointers.

Singletary provided the spark down the stretch. With 1:23 left in the game, tied at 69, the preseason All-American hit two free throws and the Cavs took their final lead. He added a 15-foot jumper with 39 seconds left to increase the 'Hoos lead to four.

But with 25.9 seconds left, Jerryd Bayless' three-pointer pulled the Wildcats within one, 73-72.

The Cavs would then turn the ball over on a 5-seconds inbounds violation, but Adrian Joseph would intercept a pass on the Wildcats' ensuing play. Arizona intentionally fouled Joseph, and he hit both free throws, as the Cavs took the 75-72 lead.

The Wildcats failed to get a clean shot off in the final 20.5 seconds, and the Cavaliers walked away from the McKale Center with their third victory of the season.

The story of the first half was Virginia's shooting from behind the arc. The Cavs hit nine three-pointers in the first 20 minutes, and was on pace to tie the school record (18) set last season against Gonzaga. The Cavs finished with 12.

Jamil Tucker was third in scoring with 12 points. Bayless led Arizona with 21 points.

Singletary was 11/11 from the free throw line.

The Cavs (3-0) return to Charlottesville to host Drexel on Tuesday.
