Yaviel Anderson is a junior at Fluvanna County High School, but to fans of area football and basketball, he's known as Ya Ya. Anderson put together a solid season on the gridiron, despite having it shortened by injury, and is in the midst of a basketball season where he is standing head and shoulders above the competition.
Anderson is averaging 23.8 points, 8.5 rebounds and 6.3 assists per game through Monday. He is considered by many to be the front-runner for Jefferson District Player of the Year on the basketball court. Anderson has led the Flucos to a 19-1 record, 12-1 in district play, and has them set to be the top seed in the Jefferson District Tournament, which tips off Friday.
What stands out to coaches and teammates as much as his game is his personality, and it's a personality that fits a person with the name Ya Ya. Fluvanna head basketball coach Munro Rateau described Anderson as always smiling and upbeat.
