Sean Singletary scored 24 points and Adrian Joseph posted a double-double of eleven points and eleven rebounds, as the Cavalier Men's Basketball Team topped Drexel, 72-58. The win improves Virginia's record to 4-0.
Both teams struggled early, as the game remained scoreless until more than three minutes had gone by in the game. The Dragons controlled the contest early, holding the lead for most of the first half. Virginia did not take its first lead of the game until 4:23 remaining in the first half. The Cavaliers added some cushion, and went into the locker room with a 31-25 lead.
The second half began with Drexel looking to trim Virginia's lead. The Dragons pulled to within two with 17:04 remaining in regulation, but Virginia exploded on a 12-2 run to pull away. Mamadi Diane hit a key three pointer to put the Cavs up ten, and Singletary sliced through the lane and made an impressive lay in to make the deficit 15. Virginia's largest lead of the game was 18 points with 3:18 remaining in the contest.
Singletary led the Cavaliers in scoring for the fourth straight game, and also added seven rebounds and five assists. In addition to Joseph, Calvin Baker and Mamadi Diane also scored in double figures, each putting up eleven points.
Virginia improves its overall record at John Paul Jones Arena to 19-1 win the win. They now hit the road for the Philly Classic at the Pelestra. The Cavaliers tip off with Pennsylvania on Friday, and will face either Seton Hall or Navy on Saturday.
