Monica Wright tied a career high with 27 points as the Cavalier Women's Basketball Team stormed past Wisconsin, 84-60, in the inaugural Women's ACC/ Big Ten Challenge. Virginia improves its record to 5-3, while the Badgers fall to 2-3.
The Cavaliers controlled the game from the opening tip, beginning the game on a 20-5 run that spanned throughout the first eight minutes of the contest. Virginia went into the locker room at halftime with a 38-21 lead. Wisconsin managed an 8-0 run in the second half, but the Cavaliers' defense stepped up to slam the door on the Badgers, as Virginia earned the 84-60 win.
In addition to Wright, several other players posted big nights. Lyndra Littles scored 17 points, and eclipsed the 1,000 point mark for her career. Aisha Mohammed earned her second career double-double, scoring 20 points while pulling down ten rebounds.
The victory for the Wahoos avenges a loss to Wisconsin in last year's Women's NIT. The Badgers topped Virginia in that game, 84-78, in Madison.
The Cavaliers return to action on Sunday, as they host Farleigh Dickinson at John Paul Jones Arena. Tip off is set for noon.
