On Sunday, Kyle Wilson suddlenly collapsed at a USA Swimming sanctioned meet in Annapolis, Maryland. Wilson was 36.
Wilson was immediately put into an ambulance and pronounced dead on the way to the hospital, according to a Jefferson Swim League representative.
At the time, he was coaching the Central Virginia Aquatics swim team. After Wilson collapsed, his team continued to swim in the competition, saying they believed that was what he would have wanted them to do.
Wilson had over 10 years experience. He was the current head coach for Albemarle County High School's boy's and girl's swim teams. He also coached the ACAC Dolphins, and previously served as an assistant head coach for the Virginia Gators.
The Albemarle Patriots will continue to swim. They have a meet Tuesday at 7pm at Crowe Pool.
