December 17, 2007
Cavalier senior defensive end Chris Long has been named to the ESPN.com All America Team. Long joins Wake Forest center Steve Justice and Georgia Tech punter Durant Brooks as the only three ACC players on the 2007 version of the squad.
Long has put together an amazing season, ranking third in the country with 14 sacks, and accumulating 19 tackles for loss, which is good enough for tenth in the nation among defensive lineman. He was only the third Cavalier in history to earn a unanimous All-American selection by earning first team All-American honors on the following teams: the American Football Coaches Association, the Sporting News, The Walter Camp Football Foundation, the Football Writers of American Association, and the Associated Press. These are the five All-American teams used by the NCAA to calculate the unanimous All-America standing.
Long is one of only eight players to be named to all five major All-American teams, and the only ACC player. He and his teammates will take the field in the Gator Bowl against Texas Tech on New Years Day, in what will be Long's final collegiate game. He is projected by many to be a top five pick in April's NFL Draft.
