Maurice Jackson scored 25 points and Omari Minor added 22, as the Charlottesville Boys Basketball Team topped William Monroe, 81-61, to open up Jefferson District play. The Dragons were able to keep it close throughout much of the first half, but the Black Knights pulled away for the victory. They improve to 1-0 in the district, a are now in a first place tie with Western Albemarle.
In Commonwealth District, Albemarle needed overtime, but was able to top Colonial Forge on the road tonight, 49-44. The Patriots will travel to Monticello next Friday.
On the girls side, Albemarle topped Colonial Forge, 64-47, behind Katie Tubridy's 16 points. The Patriots built up a nine point lead after the first quarter, and were able to build on it. C.J. Jackson and Kara Elder each added 15 points for Albemarle.
Orange opened up an eleven point advantage in the first quarter over Monticello, but had to hold off a Mustangs comeback to earn the 47-45 win. Ashley Long led the way with 22 points.
