Omari Minor had 25 points, while Maurice Jackson added 16, as the Charlottesville Boys Basketball Team held off a late Louisa comeback to top the Lions, 64-61. The Black Knights jumped out to a first quarter lead of 15-4, but Louisa held on strong, keeping it close until the final buzzer.
In other Jefferson District action, William Monroe and Orange played a tight contest tonight as well. The Hornets were able to hold off the Dragons, 45-42. Desmond Shaver posted 12 points for William Monroe in the losing effort.
In the Commonwealth District, Albemarle grabbed a key district victory over Massaponax tonight, 58-47. Andre Roberts had 12 points to lead the Patriots, while Adam Utz added eleven. Albemarle improves to 6-6 overall on the season, and is now 4-1 in the district.
The same two teams met on the girls side, with similar results. Katie Tubridy scored a game high 17, while Kaya Francisco added ten. The two squads were tied at 17 late in the second quarter, when the Patriots went on an 11-0 run, paced by two Francisco three pointers, to pull away.
Fluvanna hosted Western Albemarle tonight on the girls side, with the Warriors emerging victorious, 61-48. Fluvanna's Kiana Lloyd posted a big double-double in the losing cause, scoring 28 points and pulling down 16 rebounds. Tyana Key scored 15 points for the Flucos as well. The Warriors were led by Molly Schwoebel's 24 and Sadeeka Dosu's 16 points on the evening.
