The Cavalier women's basketball team won it's seventh straight game with a win against Virginia Tech on Sunday, 70-57. Monica Wright notched her first double-double of the season with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Aisha Mohammad led all scorers with 18 points. The Cavaliers are now 2-0 in the ACC. They return to John Paul Jones Arena on Friday to host Maryland.
It was a homecoming for former Charlottesville Black Knight Andrea Barbour. She is the ACC's leading freshman averaging about 17 point per game. On Sunday the Virginia Tech freshman scored 13 points. After the game, Virginia Tech head coach Beth Dunkenberger said it was exciting for Barbour to play in front of her friends and family.
“I was excited for her to come back and play in front of so many people that she knows and loves. I don’t know that it was necessarily her best game or her prettiest game but she did play hard. It was good to get her back. In the Carolina game she was pretty limited minute-wise. You saw her get some of the rust off and the kinks out. Hopefully next time she comes back we’ll see an even better performance.”
