The Virginia baseball team earned their second win of the weekend against Monmouth University, following Friday night's 18-4 victory with a 7-1 decision Saturday afternoon. Senior Scott Silverstein earned his first win on the mound this season, striking out a career-high eight batters in 7.0 innings. In his longest outing as a Cavalier, he allowed just three hits and one earned run.

Reed Gragnani had a bases-clearing double in the sixth inning to lead the way offensively. Second baseman Brandon Cogswell went 2-3 at the plate and scored two runs.

Virginia (4-1-1) broke a scoreless tie in the third inning on a Chris Taylor RBI triple. Taylor scored Keith Werman who led off the inning with a single to center field. Taylor would scored on a fielder's choice by Stephen Bruno. The Cavaliers would take a 3-0 lead on an RBI single from Jared King, scoring Mike Papi with two outs.

Monmouth (3-2) and UVa each scored a run in the fourth inning before Virginia secured the victory in the sixth. Virginia loaded the bases after a hit batter and two walks. After a pitching change, Gragnani brought home three runs on a double to right center. He advanced to third on the play at the plate. Cogswell, Nick Howard, and Werman scored to put Virginia up 7-1.

Virginia goes for the three-game series sweep over Monmouth on Sunday at 1 p.m.
