Mary Schwartz scored 15 points while Shannon Bayliss chipped in 14, as the Western Albemarle girls basketball team topped Fluvanna tonight, 40-31. Kiana Lloyd led the Flucos with ten points in the losing effort. The Warriors, meanwhile, improve to 8-1 in the Jefferson District.
Charlottesville got 23 points from Shawntae Payne and another 20 from Shalita Brown, as the Black Knights rolled past Louisa, 63-49. The Knights also improve to 8-1 in the district. Charlottesville, Orange, and Western Albemarle are all tied atop the standings.
The three teams will all play each other at some point next week, narrowing down the seeds for the upcoming Jefferson District Tournament. Charlottesville is the reigning district champion. The Black Knights were handed their first district loss in over four years earlier this season, falling to Orange. The Hornets fell to Western Albemarle, while the Warriors were downed by the Knights.
