Lyndra Littles scored 17 points, while Monica Wright added 16, as the Virginia Women's Basketball Team topped NC State, 74-49, at John Paul Jones Arena to continue its hot play. Sharnee Zoll added 12 assists for the Wahoos.
Littles scored 13 of her 17 points in the first half, as Virginia went into halftime up 42-20 with the game well in hand. The Cavaliers continued their dominance in the second half, not allowing the Wolfpack to get any closer than 13 points.
The contest was also part of the "Think Pink" program, which raises awareness for cancer prevention. Both Cavalier head coach Debbie Ryan and NC State head coach Kay Yow have battled cancer during their careers.
The win continues the Cavaliers' recent hot streak. Virginia has now won ten of its last eleven contests, and is currently 5-1 in the ACC. It marks the first time in eight years that the Wahoos have started out conference play 5-1, and they are currently tied for third place with Duke, who also won tonight, 85-50, over Virginia Tech.
The Cavaliers return to action on Monday, as they venture out of conference to take on Morehead State at John Paul Jones Arena. Tip off is set for 7:00. They return to ACC play next Friday, traveling to Maryland, and looking to avenge a loss from earlier this season against the conference leading Terrapins.
