Virginia played North Carolina tough the entire night last night, keeping the game close, and pushing the fifth ranked Tar Heels to the edge. The game's final moments proved crucial, especially after the Cavaliers pulled to within one.
Sean Singletary hit a three pointer with seven seconds remaining to cut the Carolina lead to 75-74. As the Tar Heels inbounded, they were able to spread the floor, and play keep away from the Cavs. Adrian Joseph fouled Wayne Ellington with 2.9 seconds left, and Ellington missed the front end of his one and one opportunity, but the ball was tipped around, and time expired.
The loss drops Virginia's record to 11-12 overall, and 1-9 in the conference. The Cavaliers are the only ACC team to hold an overall mark below .500. The closest teams in front of them in the standings are a three team cluster of Miami, Florida State, and Boston College, all of which hold 3-6 conference records.
Virginia travels to Boston College on Sunday for a rematch with the Eagles. The Cavaliers grabbed their lone conference win against BC back on January 19. Click on the above video link to hear Sean Singletary's reaction from the loss, and a recap of the final seconds of last night's game.
