Cavalier Baseball Anxious for Season Opener

February 20, 2008

After four straight seasons of reaching the NCAA Regionals, only to be ousted in that first round, the Cavalier baseball team is ready to begin its 2008 campaign. It all gets underway Friday afternoon, as Virginia welcomes Lehigh to Davenport Field for the first of a four game set.

Virginia last faced Lehigh in the 2006 NCAA Regional, and topped the Mountain Hawks in the first game of action. The weekend will consist of a four game set between the two squads, beginning Friday at 4:00. A double header will take place on Saturday, starting at noon, with the series concluding on Sunday at noon.

The Cavaliers return three of their four infielders from last year, and a solid starting pitching rotation. Virginia will suit up four fresh faces in the outfield, and behind the plate as well. Friday begins a stretch of ten games in ten days for the Wahoos.

Fans of Cavalier baseball can catch them a lot this season, as 40 of Virginia's 56 games take place at Davenport Field.
