Kevin Leatherwood scored 27 points, as the top seeded Charlottesville Black Knights topped Fluvanna, 75-73, to advance to the Jefferson District final tomorrow. This game was back and forth the entire way, as the Flucos led by five at one point in the first quarter, but the Knights came back to take the lead. They opened up the lead to seven in the fourth, but Fluvanna clawed back to within two. Charlottesville was able to hang on for the victory.
Meanwhile, in semifinal number two, Orange and Monticello played down to the wire as well. The Hornets opened up a 12 point lead in the third quarter, but the Mustangs battled back, taking the 48-47 lead at one point in the fourth. After Orange came back to take the five point lead at 55-50, Hines Banks hit a critical three with 20 seconds to play, cutting the lead to two. On an inbounds pass, Banks then came up with a steal, but the Mustangs were unable to score, as Orange took the game, 55-53.
The finals will tip off tomorrow at 8:00 between Orange and Charlottesville. The Hornets are in search of their third straight district title.
