Kevin Leatherwood scored 21 points and Omari Minor added 19, as the Charlottesville boys basketball team topped Handley in the Region II Quarterfinals, 74-70, in overtime. The win advances the Knights to the regional finals on Saturday night.
Meanwhile, in the other semifinal, Orange's season came to an end at the hands of Millbrook, as the Pioneers topped the Hornets, 75-63. Millbrook and Charlottesville will meet for the Region II title on Saturday night at Monticello.
In other boys action, Saint Anne's Belfield fell to Potomac in the VIS State Tournament.
On the girls side, the Charlottesville girls also needed overtime, but knocked off top seeded Loudoun County, 64-62. The Black Knights will take on Brentsville for the championship on Saturday night.
The STAB girls advanced to the VIS quarterfinals by topping Flint Hill. Taysha Pye scored 28 for the Saints.
