Kaitlin Duff scored two goals for Virginia, but it was not enough, as the second ranked Cavalier women's lacrosse team fell to fifth ranked Maryland, 8-5. The loss marks Virginia's first of the season, as the Terrapins snap a seven game losing streak to the Cavaliers.

Maryland jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first half, and Virginia did not score until 12:13 into the game. That marked the longest drought that the Cavs have gone during a game without scoring. It also marks the first time all season that the Wahoos have trailed by more than one goal.

Virginia worked on trimming down the Terrapin lead, and did so in the second half. Meghan O'Malley scored at the nine minute mark in the second half, cutting the lead to 7-5.

The Cavs tried desperately to get the ball back, as the score remained 7-5 with less than a minute to play. Amanda Spinnenweber hit an empty net goal with 48 seconds to play, closing the door on Virginia.

Ashley McCulloch did score one goal for Virginia, extending her streak to 27 consecutive games with at least one goal scored.

The Cavaliers fall to 3-1 on the season, 1-1 in the ACC. They'll get back to action on Friday, as they travel to Penn State. That match up faces off at 5:00.
