The Charlottesville Girls Basketball Team had high hopes to return to the state final four for the second year in a row, and with a home-seed, they were in good shape. But on Friday against Bruton, the Black Knights lost a 15 point lead over the games' final seven minutes and their season ends on a sour note.
The Black Knights led 42-27 with less than seven minutes left in the fourth quarter. Bruton applied a frustrating defensive press, and multiple steals led to Panther baskets. With 2:42 left, Bruton pulled within two points, 45-43. The Panthers took the lead with 1:31 left. Charlottesville panicked and never recovered.
Bruton won the game on a 22-4 run.
